Do you remember Netbooks ?
They were little laptops that were supposed to replace laptops a few years back. They had a low price and low quality and they almost don’t exist anymore. Then along came tables, they were supposed to replace computers in general, but surprise they did not. Tablets are awesome and they have a great fit in our world of technology. Not all tablets are the same and not all tablets can do the same job as a laptop or desktop computer.
What’s the difference amongst all of these tablets ?
You can’t just sum of the difference of all the tablets in just a sentence or two. We will break them down in a few different segments and explain what they are best for..
ANDROID TABLETS
Google made an operating system called ANDROID, and it’s free. So a company like Lenovo or Samsung can make a tablet and it won’t cost them anything to put this operating system on, so these tablets generally cheaper. This same operating system is also used on the Android smart phones, so you may have used a device that runs the Android operating system.
Most of the Android tablets on the market are very cheap, poor built, lower end models. Generally if you got it for free, or paid less than $300 for it, its most likely the lower end of the tablet family. They are slower than your cell phone, do not have much storage. They are good for checking email and web surfing, that’s about it but you can already do that on your laptop and your computers. They don’t run big programs like a computer can do, they have mini programs called apps. Some parents buy them for their kids, they ended up busted rather quickly because they are of such cheap quality.
But there is higher quality Android tablets that are very fast, better built, and have lots of storage on them. You need to do your research to find a good one, or just make it easy and speak to us, we can show you some that are great. The better ones are generally $500 and up.
iPAD TABLETS
Apple made an operating system called iOS. Apple controls a monopoly of its iOS operating system and products, so you will only find it on Apple built iPads. All iPhones use iOS so an iPad is basically an iPhone that can’t make calls, they work and feel the same.
iPads are more expensive than most tablets, starting price is around $500. They are higher quality than the low end Android tablets, but about the same or lesser quality of the Android tablets that are $500 or more. They are great for internet and email, running little app programs that do various things.
WINDOWS TABLETS
Made by various manufactures that run Windows, the same operating system that is on most of our laptops and computers. The nice thing about Windows on your tablet is it can run most or all of your computer programs, iPads and Android tablets can’t do this. The tablets that run Windows need more storage space and a faster CPU chip to run, this brings up the price compared to the low end Android and iPads. Windows 10 has an app store and an option that runs your tablet in in tablet mode. This allows you the same experience of the other tablets of having a simple screen clicking on the basic to do basic things running mini app programs, but then you can revert back to Windows mode and use it like a computer. In this way the tablet has the best of both world and you may be able to replace your computer or laptop with one of these. I would recommend getting a better one that has a detachable keyboard.
What should I buy ???
You will not get quality, or a long life with a tablet under $300. Other tablets between $300 -$500 will be hit and miss if you like them or not. The ones between $500 – $900 will have plenty of speed, space and options to suit your need for a long time, do your homework ( or let us do it for you ) and you can get a high quality unit that may able to take bumps and knocks better than most other tablets. Then there is the $1500 and up units. They are basically a full powered computer squished into a tablet that can take spills, knocks, bumps and have lots of features. Once we know what are your expectations, what are your needs, and how you plan to use your tablet, we can suggest a few models that will suit you
