A new virus came out, it’s the worst one I ever saw since doing this job for 20 years.
It may come in as an attachment in an email. What it does is run in the back ground and encrypts all of your pictures, word, adobe pdf files, excel files as well.
KEEP READING AND PROTECT YOURSELF
After it’s done a message appears on the screen that says if you want your files back, pay $300.We can get rid of the virus, but once its encrypted there is no hope.
So…
1. Don’t open up email attachments from unknown sources, or from UPS or Purolator or another source that the virus guys are posing to be. Be smart.
2. Don’t go to any free websites for free stuff.
3. Make sure your virus scanner is new, like Norton 2014, don’t use an old one that’s been updated..
4. Back up your files, no virus scanner is full proof. There are a few different various of this virus, we figure soon it will also attack Windows 8 and Mac. Back up your files as they change, once a week or once a month, you decide.
If you get stuck let me know, at this point no one has a fix for the encrypted files, we are working on it.
We thought if someone gets stuck with it, that we pay the ransom of $300, and hope the files get decrypted, and then at that point backing up the good files, erasing the hard drive, reloading windows, and then cancelling the payment if it’s with a credit card. This is all we got so far, again we are working on it.
So heads up everyone.
